EXCELLENT news for Margate!

FINALLY the nimbys of Arlington have been rightly pushed aside, so the slum that is Arlington can be dragged back to teh 21st century!

Well done Eric Pickles!

  1. Yes fantastic news, though I see that Ms Oldfield is STILL going to make further legal challenges!

  2. The reason Arlington has become a "slum" is because successive Councils, both Conservative and Labour/TIG, have done absolutely nothing to force the landlord Freshwater to do anything about it.... is an 82,000 sq ft 24 hour Tesco really what we want? Positioning a Tesco there does nothing for the regeneration of the town, goes directly against the concept of Portas Pilot schemes and even Tesco themselves admit that it will decrease footfall at other smaller stores leading to a decline in those retail areas in general... and to top it all off the CEO of Tesco himself said the other month that larger stores aren't the way forward and that Tesco will concentrate on smaller Express and Metro sized retail outlets.

  3. Would that be the Oldfield who was utterly rejected by the residents of Margate during the KCC elections?

Shame the dumb bitch doesn't get a train back to where she came from and leave Margate alone, It will do a LOT better without her.

  4. Sorry 1 o'clock, Arlington is a slum because NOBODY wants to go there, in the past or now!

It's an eyesore and has always been an eyesore! tesco doesn;t close small stores, people choosing to use it do so. The clever traders cater for the people using Tesco's in whatever it is they need over and above Tesco's offering.

Cafe's, bars, cleaners, use your imagination! Simplistic Tesco's = closed shops simply doesn;t stack up to the most cursory examination. Express has been the fastest expanding part of Tesco's for 20 years, that doesn;t mean that people don't want the "barns" aswell. Each ahs their place.

People and shopkeepers/business people can either whine about how unfair life is, or embrace progress and take advantage of the HUGE footfall that a store such as the one in Margate will generate.

  5. People need to check out Deal: there they have a HUGE superstore in the Station car park, yet the High Street (which is nearer to the store than Margate's will be) very much thrives, with a good mixture of big brand names + small independent stores!

  6. Huge footfall it may attarct, well it will attract people walking 'cos good help trying to drive to it!

But it does seem to be at the wrong end of Margate?, I suppose the ol' dears from around Thanet will love it seeing as it'll only be 5 minutes from the train station!

Will be quite a picture when it's finished... the white concrete sheds of the TC at one end of the bay and the white corrigated metal shed with TESCO all over at the other!

    1. So old people who don't drive doesn't matter? Typical selfish NIMBY attitude!

As for all the cars along the seafront, many of the people at this end of Margate (and Westbrook, Garlinge, Westgate etc) currently shop at Morrison's & Iceland, so this will actually EASE congestion!

    2. They don;t care about anyone who doesn;t live in the verticle slum Peter.

  7. I think you overstate the traffic case 1'clock. By the nimby's own claim, 18,000 cars over 2 days, that's 375 an hour, 6 a minute, hardly the M6 is it. Mind you, it does show what a HUGE majority actually want this store!

Yep, nice developments both ends of Margate, with HUGE footfall and massive opportuinity for the traders of Margate that have the balls to stop whining, and embrace the huge opportunities that will be presenting themselves.
